The Second Continental Congress had the task of carrying out the American Revolution, and moved slowly towards independence. They also raised armies, directing strategies, appointing diplomats, and making formal treaties. The congress acted as national government of what is now the United States. In 1781, the congress also became known as the congress of confederation. They also prepared the Articles of Confederation. These resolutions helped tell people to arm themselves against the British. They prepared this to help bring freedom and form militias to fight in wars.
